Endoscopic Sinus Surgery

doctor performing surgical procedureEndoscopic sinus surgery is a prodecure done under general anesthesia. It can be done with or without CT image guidance, and it is designed to remove infected or obstructive tissue from the sinuses. It is usually an outpaitent procedure.

Sometimes the nasal septum (the partition between the nostrils) is deviated. When it is deviated, this can contribute to sinus infections and also makes breathing through the nose more difficult. Correction is usually done as an outpatient and is done under general anesthesia.

Turbinate Reduction

Trimming of unusually large inferior turbinates is intended to improve nasal breathing. This procedure makes the turbinates less prone to swelling and congestion. Submucosal resection of the turbinates preserves function while decreasing their size, thus improving the airway. Turbinate reduction can be done as an in-office procedure or in the operating room with other related procedures.

Propel™ Steroid-Releasing Implant

The dissolvable Propel™ implant is the first in a new category of products offering a localized, controlled delivery of steroid directly to the sinus tissue. So far 60,000 people have received the Propel™ implant. The results show a decrease in sinus inflammation and therefore a reduction in post-operative scarring and future surgeries. Although this is done primarily in the operating room, Propel™ implants can easily be placed in the office. At this time, insurance coverage is limited to the operating room only.

Allergy Testing and Immunotherapy

We soon will offer allergy testing. Testing and identification allows us to tailor a treatment regimen for each specific patient. This can include various medications or subcutaneous immunotherapy ("allergy shots").

Other Services

In addition to dealing with chronic sinus problems and allergies, we deal with other issues related to hearing and balance, snoring and sleep disorders, and voice disorders in professional speakers and singers. There is also a full range of pediatric ear, nose, and throat sevices available.
